Terry Stretton (1953-2018)

Leicestershire CCC is sad to learn of the passing of former player Terry Stretton after a short illness.

Terry made six first-class appearances for the club during one of the most successful periods in its history between 1972 and 1975.

From Cosby, Terry played for Leicestershire Young Cricketers and then played most of his club cricket for Leicester Nomads. He played 326 matches for the Nomads between 1970 and 1985, taking over 400 wickets.

Terry was in the Leicestershire side that famously beat the Australians in 1975, and he was also a member of the Leicestershire team that won the Under 25 competition in that year.

County's side included David Gower, Nigel Briers, Nick Cook and Paddy Clift, while opponents Middlesex included Mike Gatting, Ian Gould, Roland Butcher and Wayne Daniel.

Leicestershire CCC offers its sincerest condolences to Terry’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time. Terry’s funeral will take place at 3.15pm on Friday, January 4 at Cosby Parish Church: St Michael & All Angels.
