Abbas maintains remarkable form

Leicestershire CCC overseas star Muhammad Abbas continued his fine form in test cricket, taking two for 13 from 12 overs as Pakistan dismissed New Zealand for 153 in the first test match in Abu Dhabi.

The match turned out to be a thriller with New Zealand ultimately winning by four runs. In the second innings, Abbas bowled 22 overs that went for just 31 runs.

Abbas, ranked at No.3 in the World in the ICC Test Bowling Ratings, recently produced a brilliant performance in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy.

He finished with a match return of 12 for 94 against Water and Power Development Authority after claiming six wickets in each innings. His Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited side emerged victorious by 76 runs in an entertaining game.

Set a stiff target of 399 to win, WAPDA gave it a go but ultimately came up short as Abbas returned the superb figures of six for 52 from 30.2 overs.

It continued an incredible spell of wicket-taking in first-class cricket with the 12-wicket haul meaning that Abbas had collected three ten-wicket hauls in his last four matches.

One of those ten-fors came against Australia, and he collected seven wickets in the second test, taking his total to 39 wickets in four first-class appearances.

Foxes all-rounder Colin Ackermann has enjoyed a solid start to the first-class season for Warriors, scoring 249 runs in seven innings at an average above 40.

Batsman Mark Cosgrove posted his first century of the season for Northern Districts in the West End Mens First Grade competition in Adelaide. Opening the batting, Cosgrove scored 102 off 149 deliveries, including 12 fours and a six.

At the Fischer County Ground, the other players in the Leicestershire CCC squad started the first three-week training block on Monday (November 12) after reporting back for fitness testing the previous week.

The majority of the Foxes squad is back at the Fischer County Ground for the initial part of the winter programme, including new signings Chris Wright, Arron Lilley and Will Davis. The good weather even allowed for some outdoor running drills on Tuesday afternoon.
