Foxes register David Sayer & Usman Arshad

Leicestershire CCC has registered seam bowlers David Sayer and Usman Arshad ahead of today’s Specsavers County Championship game against Warwickshire CCC after suffering a spate of injuries in recent weeks.

Zak Chappell and Gavin Griffiths were ruled out of the game at Sussex CCC with side issues, while Dieter Klein and Ben Raine sustained injuries during that match.

With Tom Taylor and Richard Jones stepping up their comebacks from injury in the Second XI this week, Leicestershire CCC has named Sayer and Arshad in a 13-man squad for the game against Warwickshire CCC.

Sayer and Arshad have signed dual registrations given they also represent Cambridgeshire CCC and Northumberland CCC respectively.

A left arm fast bowler, Sayer came through the Leicestershire CCC Academy before playing for Cambridgeshire CCC in Minor Counties cricket. The brother of Foxes’ off-spinner Rob has performed well for Leicestershire Second XI recently.

Bradford-born Arshad signed for Durham CCC in 2014 before leaving the county at the end of the 2017 season.

The 25-year-old claimed 36 first-class wickets for Durham CCC at 26.52, and also scored 548 runs at 27.40 with a highest score of 84.

Arshad, who also claimed 54 wickets in white ball cricket, has most recently represented Northumberland CCC in Minor Counties cricket.

Leicestershire CCC (from 13): Horton (capt), Abbas, Ackermann, Arshad, Cosgrove, Dearden, Dexter, Eckersley, Hill, Javid, Mike, Parkinson, D.Sayer
