Seconds could clinch Final place
Leicestershire Second XI have a huge Championship game against Lancashire Second XI starting at Kibworth CC on Monday (11am start).
There a number of permutations as the Foxes entertain the Red Rose county in the final divisional game of 2019. The most straightforward of those is that if Leicestershire CCC win, Tom Smith’s charges will secure a place in the Final.
Leicestershire Second XI (98 points) need six points to get above both Yorkshire CCC and Nottinghamshire CCC (103 points each) and finish top of the table, although Lancashire CCC (87 points) are still in with a shout too.
So although a six-point return could clinch a place in the Final for the Foxes, that would only guarantee leapfrogging the current leaders. The Foxes would, in reality, also have to avoid defeat to Lancashire CCC too in order to secure top spot.
If Leicestershire were to clinch the top spot, they would then qualify for the Final against the South Division league leaders, where they would play out a four-day fixture for the title.
Smith has named a 12-man squad for the game, including five contracted players in Hassan Azad, Sam Evans, Ben Mike, Aadil Ali and Ateeq Javid.
Academy players Don Butchart, Alex Evans, Sam Bates, Jack Nightingale and Nat Bowley, all of who have been regulars for the Second XI, are also in the 12 alongside triallists Ben Kitt and Brinder Phagura.
Leicestershire Second XI (from 12): Aadil, Azad, Bates, Butchart, Bowley, A.Evans, S.Evans, Javid, Kitt, Mike, Nightingale, Phagura
Lancashire Second XI (from 13): Bailey, Balderson, Burrows, Hameed, Hartley, Jones, Lamb, Lavelle, Lester, Morley, Onions, Parry, Shah
