Foxes fly out for winter programmes

As Leicestershire CCC’s 2019 campaign came to a close last week with the draw against Specsavers County Championship Division Two champions Lancashire CCC at the Fischer County Ground, a number of Foxes are preparing to jet off to warmer climes to continue their 2019.

In the instance of Foxes County Championship Player of the Year for 2019, Hassan Azad, there was no time wasted.

Azad left the country for Auckland, New Zealand on Tuesday (October 1) to link up with Ellerslie Cricket Club where he will look to continue his impressive form that saw him score a Division Two high of 1,189 County Championship runs.

Another Fox that has already jetted off following the conclusion of the 2019 campaign is white ball captain Colin Ackermann.

Ackermann, who set posted world record bowling figures in a T20 fixture earlier in the year against Birmingham Bears, has flew out to link up with the Dutch national team who are taking part in a pentangular T20I series in Oman which consists of four fixtures against Ireland, Nepal, Oman and Hong Kong.

The pentangular T20I series serves as final preparation for the Netherlands before the team fly to the United Arab Emirates to continue their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 qualifying campaign.

Netherlands are in group A along with Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Namibia, Singapore, Kenya and Bermuda.

Mark Cosgrove, who finished the 2019 campaign in fine form for Leicestershire, flew back home after the season drew to a close.

He is set to link up with the Northern Districts Cricket Club in his hometown, alongside slow left-arm spinner Callum Parkinson who is just waiting on his visa.

Wicketkeeper Harry Swindells is also waiting on his visa before flying out to Sydney, Australia to link up with Camden Cricket Club following his first season of red ball cricket.

Another Fox who is waiting for their visa is seam-bowler Gavin Griffiths who is set to join up with Fitzroy Doncaster Cricket Club in Melbourne, Australia.

Further, Sam Evans is also set to fly out to Australia as he will link up with Auburn District Cricket Club in Sydney.

Everybody from Leicestershire County Cricket Club wishes all of the Foxes family well during their winter programme and looks forward to welcoming them back for the 2020 season.
