Foxes prepare for final away fixture

Leicestershire CCC head into the penultimate Specsavers County Championship fixture of the season – their final away game – as they head down to Cardiff to take on promotion chasing Glamorgan CCC.

The Foxes lost out by seven wickets in their previous fixture – against another promotion chasing side Northamptonshire CCC – in a fixture where they fielded two debutants.

Head Coach Paul Nixon spoke to the Club ahead of the clash: “Again it is going to be a fantastic opportunity for us to do well against a good team.

“We have had some really great games down there and it will be interesting to see what pitch they pull out – whether they go quite green or a very dry, turning pitch.

“Time well tell in terms of the pitch, but we just need to make sure that we put the hurt from the defeat against Northamptonshire into our performances.”

The fixture against Northamptonshire saw two new faces amongst the Foxes’ ranks with George Rhodes and academy product Alex Evans producing impressive performances on their first outings, as Nixon highlights: “I am really pleased for him, he has been impressive when he has played.

“He was in form coming into this and has hit a couple of five-wickets hauls beforehand.

“He is going to be a fantastic prospect and I am delighted that an academy player has made it into the first team on merit.

“He has got big things to come.”

Nixon added: “George has touched on playing first-class cricket with Worcestershire but has been in and out and just needs backing.

“He must have saved 20 runs in the field in this game as well.

“We have a couple of games left to get a bit of momentum going and finish well and George is desperate to do that.”

Leicestershire CCC Second XI were up in Durham during the week playing a 3-day friendly fixture, a fixture where a number of players put in stand-out performances.

Nixon highlights that there have been a few questions posed by the Second XI: “We will liaise with the Second team coaches and get their thoughts of how things have gone this week and make some calls.”

Leicestershire get their final away Specsavers County Championship fixture away at Glamorgan underway in Monday (September 16).
