Nixon: "It's great to be back"

Following the news that the Leicestershire first team squad returned to training at the Fischer County Ground today, Paul Nixon spoke about the high standards demanded from within the squad to inspire supporters.

The players began the stage one return to training which will involve players training in one-hour slots on a one-to-one basis with a coach.

The Fischer County Ground has been extensively cleaned with the very latest regulations and procedures put in place to ensure the safety of players and staff whilst at the ground.

On the players return to training Nixon said: “We are all delighted to be able to return to cricket training to push the players skills back up to the elite standard level and prepare for a return to cricket on August 1.

“Our phase one started with one-to-one training in the gym with our S&C coach Alex [Carrie] and then the player went into the nets where Tom Smith will deliver a personalised one hour specific session with each seamer. Next week, our batsmen will have one-to-one sessions with myself between bowling days.”

On the current conditions of the players Nixon said: “The players have kept themselves superbly fit and we are very proud of their attention to detail whilst at home training. Our squad has technically, physically, and emotionally strengthened since last season.

“We are driving to inspire our Members and supporters, demanding high standards from each other and being ruthless in our execution to reach our goals.

“I’d like to also say that the players, coaches and staff at our great club have all been outstanding through a very difficult time. I’d like to also thank the Members and fans for continuing to support us during this time as well.”
