2021 Vitality Blast

The Running Foxes' Vitality Blast fixtures have been confirmed for the 2021 season.

The Vitality Blast competition will return to its traditional format of a 14-match group stage phase between it's North and South groups, leading to the knockout stage and then Finals Day.

Each county will therefore play seven matches at home, and seven matches away, with the top four counties in each group progressing to the quarter-finals.

The quarter-finals will be seeded with the higher-seeded team set to host their quarter-final. For example, the top team in the North Group will host the fourth-ranked team from the South Group in the quarter finals.

The four winners of the quarter-finals, played between Tuesday, 24 and Friday, 27 August, progress to Finals Day. Finals Day will be staged at Edgbaston on Saturday, 18 September.

*All knockout matches will have a reserve day should that be required.

The Vitality Blast group stages will be the first of the two competitions to get underway, with the Running Foxes’ first fixture taking place at Old Trafford against Lancashire Lightning, the scene of Leicestershire’s passage through to the quarter-finals in 2020.

The Blast competition gets up and running following 8 of the 10 LV=County Championship group stage fixtures, following its restructure ahead of the new campaign.

The first home fixtures held at the newly renamed Uptonsteel County Ground will see the Running Foxes host Derbyshire Falcons and Durham Cricket in consecutive fixtures. An away trip to Headingley then follows to take on Yorkshire Vikings.

The Running Foxes then head back to the Uptonsteel County Ground for a Wednesday night fxture against Birmingham Bears. Incidentally, the last time a Birmingham Bears fixture, in Leicester, was held on a Wednesday night, Running Foxes skipper Colin Ackermann claimed his world-record bowling figures of 7-18. Will history repeat itself?

Trips to Northamptonshire, Derbyshire, Worcestershire, Nottinghamshire and Durham are intertwined with home fixtures against Yorkshire Vikings and Northamptonshire Steelbacks, before the Blast breaks for the final two rounds of the LV=County Championship fixtures.

The Running Foxes Blast group stage campaign is then wrapped up with back-to-back home fixtures against Nottinghamshire Outlaws and Worcestershire Rapids.
